Pasadena Parents Outraged and Demand Justice After Daughter Forced to Duct Tape Her Mouth

Miami Standard (Pasadena, CA) – After an 11-year-old girl was made to duct tape her own mouth by a school employee for allegedly talking too much, her parents are furious.

Noemi Hurtado, the child in question, attends Blair Middle School in Pasadena and is a sixth grader.

Noemi and her pals were having lunch on campus on March 24 when a female security guard allegedly reprimanded her for being too noisy.

Noemi was taken to the principal’s office by the woman, who instructed her to cover her mouth with duct tape.

“I got a phone call that no parent wants to receive,” said Ricardo Hurtado, the girl’s father. “She was playing with her friends and being a little too loud. She was asked to stop once and she didn’t, I guess, and continued to play.”

According to Ricardo, the security guard allegedly “humiliated” Noemi by walking her around the campus and even to a local high school after she had been duct taped.

Noemi “had the nerve to state to the teacher that she shouldn’t take off the tape because she has a hard time being quiet,” according to Ricardo, as the guard walked her to her next lesson.

According to Ricardo, Julio, the head of security at the school, saw what was happening and stepped in. Before they returned to the principal’s office, he pulled Noemi out of the class and assured her that she was not in trouble.

The event happened, the principal told KTLA, and the security man involved was fired.

“I was in shock,” Ricardo said. “I was just trying to make sure that [my daughter] was okay and wasn’t fully damaged herself. An 11-year-old girl shouldn’t be going through this.”

In response to the incident, the Pasadena Unified School District issued the following statement:

“The safety and well-being of our students are our top priority. We are aware of allegations involving a former substitute security officer. As a result, this individual is no longer employed by the district. We take concerns like this very seriously and are cooperating fully with the Pasadena Police Department. We are committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for our students.”

According to Noemi’s family, they demand justice and legal repercussions for the security guard. Since then, they have reported the incident to the police.
