Parents who took their young children to a Michigan splash pad found themselves in a terrifying situation when a disturbed individual started shooting. Sadly, they were among the nine victims who were injured during the incident at the summer attraction on Saturday, according to their loved ones.
Micayla and Eric Coughlin were injured while shielding their 2-year-old and 7-month-old daughters from gunfire at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad, close to their residence, around 5 p.m.
A family friend shared in a GoFundMe post that the husband and wife, residing in Rochester, endured a terrifying incident where they were both shot a total of seven times.
Both individuals are currently receiving medical care after being urgently transported to a hospital.
“Thanks to their courageous actions, their children were kept safe and could return home that evening,” stated a family friend on the GoFundMe page. Micayla and Eric are confronted with a challenging and uncertain path to recovery following this unimaginable tragedy.
A tragic incident occurred at the park, where the Coughlins and seven other individuals were injured in a shooting. The perpetrator, identified as 42-year-old Michael William Nash, later took his own life during a confrontation with the police.

A 39-year-old woman, who is related to the two children, sustained gunshot wounds to her legs and abdomen, leaving her in critical condition on Saturday.
