Overdose Incidents On Rise in Virginia; Another High School Student Hospitalized

Herndon, VA: A 17-year-old was hospitalized following an overdose on Wednesday evening.

Authorities report that at approximately 11:50 p.m., law enforcement personnel were dispatched to the 13000 block of Coppermine Road in response to a 17-year-old discovered unconscious in the bathroom. There were indications of drug use near the 17-year-old. The teenager was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The 17-year-old attends Herndon High School. The school administration sent a letter to parents informing the parents. The letter stated:

“It is important that we treat substance-use disorders and overdoses with compassion, grace, and understanding. As a community, we all play a role in reducing the stigma associated with substance use disorders, while also focusing on substance misuse prevention. So often, families are caught unaware. So many families think it does not affect them, until it does. Please be vigilant.”
