Ohio Cop Dead after Man Fatally Shot Him while He was Serving Warrants: Authorities

A tragic incident occurred in Cleveland as a police officer lost their life in the line of duty early Thursday morning. The officer was shot while attempting to serve a warrant on the city’s east side.

According to local news outlets, Police Chief Dorothy Todd reported that a 27-year-old officer, who had been with the department for four years, was shot in the Hough neighborhood around 1 a.m. According to a statement released on the social platform X, the police have sadly confirmed that Officer Jamieson Ritter lost his life this morning while carrying out his duty to serve and protect our community.

A 24-year-old individual named De’Lawnte Hardy has been charged with the serious crime of aggravated murder.

Ritter was involved in a team sent to deliver a warrant to Hardy for felonious assault, as reported by Todd. A total of 10 officers were involved in that team.

According to Todd, when they arrived, Hardy was spotted hastily leaving the residence on a bicycle. Authorities attempted to apprehend the suspect, and Hardy reportedly discharged a firearm on multiple occasions.

Police “go out there, they work hard,” Todd said. “They risk their lives. They risk everything they have to protect the community.”

Hardy was apprehended and transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure, according to Todd as reported by The Associated Press.
