North Carolina Mother Arrested after 2-year-old Overdosed on Drugs; Toddler Revived using Narcan: Authorities
According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, a lady was taken into custody and charged with felony child abuse when she discovered that her child was unresponsive.
On the evening of Monday, July 1, at approximately midnight, the sheriff’s office responded to an emergency call that was placed at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
When deputies arrived at the hospital, they learned that the child’s mother, Brittany Dawn Riley, 31, had brought him to the emergency room after discovering that he was unresponsive.
According to the authorities, medical personnel were able to determine that the child was experiencing an overdose, and they administered Narcan to the child.
In a statement made by the sheriff, Riley revealed that she had used illegal substances, specifically fentanyl and methamphetamine, at her apartment earlier in the day.
After that, Riley was taken into custody and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where she was charged with felony child abuse and is currently being held under a secured bond of one hundred thousand dollars.
WBTV News reported that the child is expected to make a full recovery.
