Newborn Found Abandoned in Freezing San Antonio Leads to Mother’s Arrest

(Miamistandard) San Antonio– Last week, a newborn was discovered abandoned in a basket in frigid weather. The person who is believed to be the baby’s mother has been taken into custody.
On Monday, Ava Marie Guerra was charged with injury to a child and willful serious bodily injury by the San Antonio Police Department.
On January 21, shortly after 3 a.m., a newborn baby was discovered on the sidewalk at the intersection of Nolan Street and North Cherry Street, which is located east of Downtown San Antonio.
A man reported to the authorities that he discovered the newborn in a basket that was wrapped in a towel. The police observed that the umbilical chord was still connected. At that moment, the temperatures were far below freezing.
The officers observed that the kid was “breathing weakly,” and the baby was sent to the hospital in critical condition.
While being questioned, the officers found out that the man had not been truthful when he said that he had discovered the infant. He was aware of the location of the baby’s birth and the identity of the baby’s mother.
The mother and other witnesses were located by investigators at an apartment that was close by. After the alleged mother gave birth, they discovered that she was not interested in taking care of the child. The man then left the residence with the baby, hoping to locate medical attention for the child. He called the cops for assistance instead.
Guerra was apprehended by the officers, who believed they had sufficient information.
The authorities would want to remind the public that if someone thinks they cannot take care of a newborn, they can safely leave the baby at a designated site, such as a fire station, without being asked any questions.
