New York Man Charged with Arson after Instructing Kid to Play with Fireworks in Long Island Home

A man from New York has been charged with arson for his involvement in a fire incident on Independence Day. According to the police, he provided an 11-year-old child with fireworks, which resulted in a shed and two homes catching fire.

A shed caught fire in Levittown after a child was instructed to ignite fireworks, according to the Nassau County Police Department on Long Island. A fire quickly engulfed Singh’s home and a nearby house in the suburban neighborhood, resulting in significant damage.

Photos taken by local media revealed a dense plume of smoke emanating from the fire, while the exterior of one of the houses was charred, revealing its wooden framework. Scorched remnants were scattered throughout the yard.

“The firework malfunctioned and caused a detached shed, within the yard, to ignite which became engulfed in flames,” the police department said. “The fire spread to the defendant’s dwelling and a neighboring home.”

“Both homes suffered extensive damage, but there were no injuries reported,” the statement noted. Singh was arrested and the 11-year-old was released to a family member, according to police.

There were no reported injuries. Singh was taken into custody without any issues, and the child was safely handed over to a relative, according to Law and Crime.

Singh is currently being represented by the Nassau County legal aid office, according to court records. A comment was requested on Sunday. Singh is facing multiple charges, including arson, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child.
