New Jersey Authorities Seize Weapons Cache in Totowa Home After Social Media Post
Authorities discovered a stash of illegal weapons concealed within a crawl space at a residence in suburban New Jersey, following a social media post.
According to Totowa Police, an anonymous tip led to the discovery of more than 100 illegal, fully loaded high-capacity magazines, thousands of rounds of ammunition, four explosives, numerous knives, and components used for building and modifying firearms.
According to police, social media photos depict the suspect brandishing a firearm.
A tipster informed the police that Kyle Arena, 35, posted images on social media showing himself aiming a gun out of a window at individuals while driving, as reported by law enforcement officials.
Investigators reported that they received screenshots of comments allegedly made by Arena in a Facebook group for gun enthusiasts.
“I couldn’t believe it. That’s just crazy, man. What’s he starting, his own army or something?” said Carmine Cifaldi.
“I was just shocked,” said Ciro Abbondanza.
The police secured a temporary Extreme Risk Protection order to conduct a search of Arena’s residence on Lincoln Avenue, where he resides with his parents.
Authorities in New Jersey, including state and local police, were examining the weapons and probing into the motive behind the cache.
According to police, Felix Arena, the father of the suspect, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and making terroristic threats during the execution of the search warrant.
“I know the father. The father’s a very good guy. He’s a friend of mine,” said Cifaldi.
Arena’s son faced multiple charges related to weapons violations. He underwent processing and was released, with a court appearance anticipated next week.
“I don’t know what was going through his mind,” said Herbie Rios, who’s son grew up with Arena decades ago.
