Prosecutors have upped charges to felony murder for two men accused in the murders of three Kansas City Chiefs fans discovered dead outside a Missouri home last year, according to a recent court filing.

In March, the Platte County District Attorney charged Jordan Willis, 39, and Ivory Carson, 42, with distribution of a controlled substance and three counts of manslaughter in connection with the apparent overdose deaths of Ricky Johnson, 38, David Harrington, 37, and Clayton McGeeney, 36.

According to a four-page amended complaint acquired by USA TODAY on June 27, Willis and Carson are now charged with three charges of criminal murder in the second degree.

The new lawsuit states that under Missouri law, felony murder in the second degree is punished by 10 to 30 years in prison or life imprisonment.

A person convicted of manslaughter faces five to fifteen years in prison.

Tanya Faherty, a representative for the Platte County Attorney’s Office, told USA TODAY that the new lawsuit was submitted in open court before a judge on June 26.

The men’s remains were discovered Jan. 7, 2024, outside Willis’ suburban Kansas City home, where the group had congregated to watch an NFL game.

During a news conference earlier this year, officials revealed that Carson was the suspected drug dealer who sold cocaine to Willis and the victims. According to court records, Carson’s DNA was detected on a fentanyl bag at the site.

The case gained global attention because the cause of the fans’ deaths had been unknown for nearly a year.

According to court records released in March, the males died as a result of fentanyl and cocaine overdoses.

Despite the completion of their autopsies, law enforcement and prosecutors refused to publicly divulge the men’s causes and manners of death for several months. At the time, authorities highlighted the case’s ongoing investigation.
