Mother-Son Found Dead in a Ditch amid Custody Battle in Texas
San Antonio, TX: Authorities in Texas are investigating a probable murder-suicide after a mother and her young son were reported missing on Monday night. The bodies of the two were discovered in a ditch the following day.
Kaiden Kriger, 3, and his mother, Savannah Kriger, 32, were placed under an Amber Alert on Monday following their disappearance.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Savannah was reported missing on Tuesday after she left work early to pick up her son from daycare and take him to his doctor’s appointment.
Around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, she disappeared from her son’s daycare. In a further search, the BCSO located her abandoned white 2023 Lincoln Aviator near Tom Slick Park, which is located off State Highway 151E.
After discovering two deaths in a neighboring park, Sheriff Javier Salazar updated the investigation into a homicide during a news conference on Tuesday.
At her apartment “not too far from here,” the BCSO was contacted on Monday night to inquire about Savannah and her son’s well-being, according to Salazar.
Deputies were allowed to enter the residence with permission and “found some things that led us to believe there was cause for concern for the child as well as for Savannah,” he added, without specifying what those items were. Despite the absence of a car, the residence was searched.
According to him, relatives were worried that they wouldn’t be able to make it to Savannah. In addition to having her GPS tracker disabled, Salazar reported that her phone went directly to voicemail.
Official confirmation that the bodies found belong to Savannah and her baby is still pending, but according to Salazar, authorities are “operating on the premise that it is Savannah and the child who were found.”
“There may have been some gunshots fired,” he stated, adding that there is preliminary evidence of this. A firearm was discovered nearby.
He added that the investigators are still looking into the possibility of a murder-suicide involving the mother and son.
