Mother Performed Exorcism on Toddler by Drowning in Bathtub; Arrested after Father Found Kid Unresponsive in Florida

A Florida woman is facing accusations of trying to drown her toddler in the bathtub after the child accidentally knocked over her potted plant.

Karina Mustafa, 29, has been booked into the Volusia County jail on a charge of aggravated child abuse, according to a press release from the Daytona Beach Police Department. The incident in question occurred on June 7.

According to police, around 12:45 p.m. on June 7, Daytona Beach Police responded to an incident involving a toddler who nearly drowned.

Officers discovered that the disturbance arose from the toddler being found unresponsive in the bathtub by the father during the investigation.

After conducting a more thorough investigation, it was concluded that Mustafa was the one responsible for the near-drowning incident.

As per the arrest affidavit obtained by FOX News, the toddler was playing outside near the lawn of the residence. During playtime, the child accidentally knocked over some potted plants, resulting in the child getting covered in dirt and muddy water.

After the incident, Mustafa engaged in a heated disagreement with the father of the toddler. This led her to take the child and confine them in the bathroom, supposedly to clean up the aftermath.

According to arrest records, Mustafa allegedly submerged the toddler’s face in bathtub water before unlocking the door. The father discovered the child unconscious in the bathtub.

According to officers, the father skillfully administered life-saving measures and successfully revived the toddler. The child was then taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

During an interview with investigators, Mustafa confessed to slapping the child for pulling her fingers and causing damage to her nails. She also admitted to intentionally holding the toddler’s face down in the water, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Mustafa allegedly stated that the child’s behavioral problems were causing strain in her relationship with the child’s father, describing the child as “out of control.” According to the police, Mustafa expressed his belief that the child was “possessed” and that “the diablo (Devil)” was involved in the child’s life.

She is currently being held in the Volusia County jail without bond.
