A woman of four died Wednesday after falling from a steep section in a Massachusetts state park.
Carolyn Sanger, 49, of Topsfield, died after falling about 50 to 75 feet in Purgatory Chasm State Reservation in Sutton, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
Officials informed Fox News Digital that Massachusetts State Police arrived at the location just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Sanger was hiking with three of her children and other family members when the event happened, according to Sutton police.
There were “multiple” medical experts hiking in the area, ready to provide rapid medical assistance.
However, she was pronounced dead shortly after, according to a Facebook statement from Sutton Police.
Troopers secured the location, and the event is still being investigated by state police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
“We extend our condolences to the decedent’s family and loved ones,” the Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.
Sutton police said they had also conveyed sympathies to the family.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Sanger family’s GoFundMe page had raised nearly $50,000.
“For those that knew Carrie, know that she was a bright light; a wonderful, selfless mother who has raised four incredible, respectful, responsible kids,” said the site’s administrators. “She was a friend to everyone, and her smile and lovely personality will be deeply missed. She died too young, but she did so with the people she cared about.”
According to Boston 25 News, the renowned state park is well-known for its 70-foot-deep fissure that separates granite bedrock.
