Mother Killed her Own Toddler Son in Washington; Faces Charges after Kid’s body found along Expressway

Everett, WA: A mother was apprehended the day after her preschool-aged son’s body was discovered off an expressway in Washington.

A relative reported Janet Garcia’s 4-year-old son, Ariel, missing on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) took her into arrest for providing “false and misleading statements” in the hours following the allegation. Garcia is from Everett, Washington. Additionally, CCSO seized her vehicle on that very day.

The corpse of Ariel was discovered in Pierce County, approximately one hour south of Seattle, off an expressway on Thursday at approximately 5:55 p.m.

Everett Chief of Police John DeRousse expressed his sympathies to the Garcia family and friends on behalf of the entire police department. “Our expectations were not met with this result.”

The Everett Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit apprehended Garcia on Friday, March 29, and subsequently lodged him into the Snohomish County Jail on the following charges:

  • First-degree murder
  • Second-degree murder
  • Assault of a child in the first-degree

Major crimes investigators from the Everett Police Department are still investigating the matter and will keep digging, as said in the statement.
