Mother Arrested After Selling Drug-Infused Snacks to Kids in Florida
Renee Stephens is charged with selling individually packaged marijuana-infused snacks to the kids. Stephens, 32, is from Tampa, Florida. She is also charged with fentanyl trafficking.
The investigation also revealed that she handled Fentanyl while holding her infant. This act of hers also put her baby’s life in danger as well.
The investigation named her the “CANDY LADY.”
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement held a news release on Friday and informed the public about her menace. The news release was the worst nightmare for every parent after they found out that their kids were consuming drug-laced snacks.
“It is unconscionable that a mother would have this poison near her baby and sell it to others. I am thankful for our law enforcement partners for seizing the lethal amounts of fentanyl in this case, enough to kill nearly 80,000 people,” said Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody.
Authorities claimed that the agents bought medications that included 58 grams of fentanyl.
Investigators claim to have found 100 fentanyl tablets, 153 grams of fentanyl, marijuana, and 63 individually wrapped snacks that looked like popular snaking items during a search of Stephens’s residence on Monday.
She used to sell the infused drugs in packets that resembled Oreos, Doritos, and Fritos. Officials released photos of the packets filled with drugged snacks.
Stephens is still being held at the Hillsborough County Jail on a $92,000 bond as of Friday night. It is unclear if she is represented by counsel or an attorney.
The news release stated that investigators discovered Stephens’s jailed spouse, Vincent E. Stephens, was assisting her in organizing the narcotics trade.
