Missouri Husband Shot Dead by Wife after Heated Argument; Husband Brutally Assaulted Wife: Authorities

Kearney, MO: A Kearney woman has been arrested and is now facing charges in connection with the death of her husband.

Deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the northeastern part of Kearney, specifically in the 16200 block of Country Ridge Drive, located just south of Jesse James Farm Road. The incident, which was reported around 10 p.m., involved a shooting.

Authorities discovered the lifeless body of Ricky Allen, aged 50, at the location, leading to the apprehension of Melissa Hoffner-Allen, aged 48. She has been charged by Clay County prosecutors with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

In a distressing turn of events, Hoffner-Allen contacted the authorities, informing them of a tragic incident involving her husband. She revealed that she had fired a shot at him, resulting in a grave injury to his chest and leaving him unresponsive. Despite the efforts of emergency workers, they were unable to save him and had to declare him deceased.

Investigators have discovered evidence of an incident involving fallen drywall and a spent shell casing found at the bottom of a staircase. A shell casing was discovered that matched the rounds found in a 9 mm pistol recovered from the scene.

Upon being taken to jail and photographed, a detective observed visible bruising on both of Hoffner-Allen’s arms, as stated in the charging document obtained by FOX4KC.

After consulting with legal counsel, she chose not to provide any additional statements to investigators.

Hoffner-Allen attended her arraignment on Thursday accompanied by her attorney, where she entered a plea of not guilty. The bond amount of $250,000 remains unchanged.
