Mississippi Trooper Injured and Airlifted after Drunk Driver Struck Him at Traffic Check

A Mississippi State Trooper was seriously injured while carrying out a checkpoint in Hancock County.

On Friday, May 24, at around 10 p.m., a collision occurred on Highway 90 in Hancock County. The incident involved a vehicle driven by a teenager and MHP Trooper Nicholas Dean, who was conducting a checkpoint in correlation with the Memorial Day travel period.

Authorities report that Trooper Dean was transported by helicopter from the incident site to a hospital located outside of the state, where he is being treated for severe injuries.

The MHP is currently investigating the incident as a potential charge of driving under the influence causing injury.

“Trooper Dean is expected to make a full recovery,” stated Commissioner Sean Tindell of the Department of Public Safety. Engaging in irresponsible behavior like drinking and driving can have severe consequences, endangering the lives of others and potentially leading to serious legal repercussions.
