Mississippi Firefighter Shot Straight in Head by Girlfriend; Shooter Charged with Homicide after SWAT Standoff

A woman is facing murder charges following the tragic death of a Jackson firefighter who was fatally shot in the head earlier this year.

Tammie Williams, a 41-year-old woman, made an appearance in Hinds County court this week for her preliminary hearing.

A woman has been charged with the murder of her boyfriend, Gerald Bates, 49, who tragically lost his life in a shooting at his home in April.

A tense situation unfolded as Williams reportedly fired at Bates, prompting the arrival of hostage negotiators and a S.W.A.T. team.

An incident occurred on Ferguson Drive when firefighters conducted a wellness check on a fellow firefighter.

Following an hour-long operation, the S.W.A.T unit employed tear gas to gain access to the residence, successfully apprehending Williams without any complications as per WLBT News.

In addition to the murder charge, Williams is facing an additional charge of possessing a stolen firearm. A dog had to be gunned dowmn because of its aggressive behavior towards law enforcement officers.

Authorities confirm that Williams and Bates were residing together. It remains uncertain whether the weapon was used in the incident.

Hinds County Judge Johnnie McDaniels has denied bond for the murder charge and has issued a $10,000 bond for the stolen firearm.
