Middle-Aged Man Tried to Justify Molestation of Young Girl While Being High on Drugs; Judge Slapped Him with 30 Years of Jail in Texas

A Montgomery County resident, aged 39, has received a sentence for engaging in sexual exploitation of a child and possessing child pornography, as reported by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

James Aubrey Zachary Wasson admitted his guilt on September 27, 2023.

Following the plea, Wasson received a sentence of 360 months for the sexual exploitation conviction and 120 months for the production conviction. The sentences will be served concurrently, resulting in a total 30-year term of imprisonment.

During the hearing, the court listened to the victim’s mother as she described the impact of Wasson’s actions on her child, including the child experiencing nightmares. The court recognized the significant impact of the prison terms, acknowledging that they would forever change the victim’s life.

The judge dismissed Wasson’s claim that his drug addiction was an excuse for exploiting the child, stating that drug abuse does not justify preying upon children.

As part of the court’s decision, Wasson has been directed to provide $29,000 in restitution to several victims. Additionally, he will be under supervised release for 10 years after serving his prison sentence. Throughout that period, he will be obligated to adhere to various stipulations aimed at limiting his interaction with minors and online platforms. Additionally, Wasson will be required to register as a sex offender.

“Wasson devastated a young girl’s life,” Hamdani stated. “Today’s verdict brings some measure of justice, ensuring that Wasson will be unable to harm other children for a significant period.”

Authorities have identified Wasson as the individual responsible for uploading over 500 files of child pornography between March 2019 and March 2021. A folder held a collection of 51 photographs, all captured on a single day in December 2020.

There were images of him in a highly inappropriate situation with a young girl. He also seemed to be touching her under her clothing.

Further investigation revealed that Wasson’s cell phone was indeed the device used to create a series of explicit photographs. Additional illicit content was discovered on the cell phone, consisting of inappropriate images captured over a one-year period.

The minor victim also recognized Wasson and remembered the moment when he captured the images.

Wasson will continue to be held in custody until being transferred to a facility determined by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons in the near future.
