Miami Standard (Brevard County, FL) – The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a Mercedes-Benz fleeing from authorities collided with two automobiles stopped on the shoulder of an Interstate 95 exit ramp in Brevard County on Friday morning, killing three persons and injuring two others.
The triple-fatality crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. on the I-95 north exit ramp to King Street near Cocoa.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 41-year-old Sebastian male was driving a 2015 Mercedes north on I-95 with three passengers — two women and one man — and was “actively fleeing from FHP and traveling above the posted speed limit.”
The Mercedes departed the highway and collided with an unoccupied 2005 Ford F-650 tow truck and a 2011 Ford F-750 tow truck sitting on the ramp’s shoulder, according to troopers.
A 39-year-old Palm Bay man, however, was below one of the tow trucks while connecting it to the other, according to an FHP collision report.
The three occupants in the Mercedes were pronounced dead at the spot, according to the crash report.
The Mercedes driver and a man from Palm Bay were taken to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center, according to troopers.
According to the FHP, the Sebastian man sustained critical injuries and the Palm Bay man was seriously injured.
There have been no more specifics disclosed, including information about the FHP pursuit.
