Man Sentenced to Death after Jury Conviction in Texas, Killed Woman during Armed Carjacking
A jury in Johnson County has given a man the death penalty for killing a woman in 2021. The man is identified as Jerry Elders.
Jury found Jerry Elders guilty of murdering Robin Waddell and sentenced him to death last week. Elders shot Joshua Lott when he pulled him over. He then took Robin Waddell, 60, hostage, killed her, and stole her truck.
Attorneys for the state said Elders’ crime spree began when Burleson police officer Joshua Lott pulled him over for speeding.
Elders killed Officer Lott. He then killed Waddell and took her truck. The children of Waddell testified during the sentencing part.
Daughter of Waddell and Patricia Cook said, “You always think you have more time, and I have learned the hardest lesson that you don’t have more time.”
During the sentencing part, the jurors also heard Elders’ calls from jail. During the talks, he made fun of Officer Lott.
In an effort to save Elders’ life, the defense called several witnesses Wednesday morning.
