Man Sentenced to 7 Years In Prison for Fatal Crash on New Year’s Day that Took Life of Mother Of 3 in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ: A 20-year-old man received a seven-year prison sentence for his involvement in a fatal crash on New Year’s Day 2022 in Phoenix, resulting in the death of a mother of three.

Just after midnight on January 1, 2022, the defendant’s vehicle collided with a car carrying 27-year-old Crystal Garcia, her husband, and their three young children. Garcia tragically did not make it through the crash.
Returning from a New Year’s Eve party, the family’s car was struck near 38th Street and Greenway Road.
Collins, who was 18 at the time, was accused by investigators of driving while impaired at 89 mph in a 45-mph speed zone. The defendant stood firm and did not admit to any DUI charges.
During a recent interview, Crystal’s family showed understanding towards the driver who is accused of causing her death.
Collins will be under supervised probation for five years after serving his prison term. As per court records, his probation terms involve abstaining from alcohol, attending a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim impact panel, and losing his driver’s license.
