Man Made Pipe Bombs at Home; Was Planning Bomb and Gun Attack at Nearby High School in Montana; Sentenced after Teen Reported Suspicious Activity

A Helena resident has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for the illegal possession of homemade bombs and a silencer. The individual was suspected of planning an attack on a Helena Public Schools building. U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich provided this update.

Logan Sea Pallister, 25, admitted his guilt in January for possessing unregistered destructive devices and an unregistered silencer.

In court documents, the government claimed that in May 2022, the Helena Police Department was informed by a juvenile girl about Pallister’s possession of multiple bombs, access to firearms, and threats to carry out an attack at a local high school. The individual also mentioned that Pallister expressed a disturbing intention to carry out an attack similar to the tragic events at Columbine High School.

In addition, Pallister had displayed a variety of firearms and a significant quantity of ammunition that he stored in his vehicle. He had also acquired a black trench coat and a duffle bag resembling those used by the perpetrators of the tragic incident at Columbine High School. Pallister displayed a self-made explosive device that he claimed to have crafted and retrieved from his vehicle. The person later disclosed that Pallister made a threat to harm her if she revealed what he had revealed to her. Despite Pallister’s denial of making the threat, the incident was reported to law enforcement by the individual involved.

In the early hours of May 31, 2022, Pallister was apprehended by police officers as he made his way to his vehicle from his home. Pallister was dressed in a black trench coat, with a bag in hand, and had a collection of eight loaded firearms hidden on his person. The firearms included semi-automatic pistols and AR-style rifles with high-capacity magazines.

After Pallister’s arrest, authorities conducted a search of his vehicle and found nine more firearms, various firearm accessories, body armor, trigger modification systems meant to enhance the rate of fire, an ammunition canister holding four homemade pipe bombs, and an oil filter that had been altered to function as a silencer.

During a search of Pallister’s residence, authorities discovered a significant amount of ammunition, along with additional firearm components and materials commonly used in the production of explosives.
