Man Killed Wife in Kansas and Carried Body to Missouri; Turned Himself into Police in Missouri; Now Facing Charges in Both States
A tragic incident unfolded as a husband made a distressing call to 911, confessing to the unthinkable act of taking the life of his wife, a loving mother of two, during a camping trip in Kansas. Authorities claim that he then proceeded to transport the victim’s body across state lines into Missouri.
A 23-year-old suspect, Gavino McJunkins-Macias, allegedly made a distressing call to 911 last Thursday, just before noon on June 13. The call reported the unfortunate news of the discovery of a deceased individual, identified as 24-year-old Kenia Lopez, inside a camper.
According to authorities, he is now facing a second-degree murder case in Kansas and an abandonment of a corpse charge in Missouri.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas has accused McJunkins-Macias of committing the slaying in a rural area in Louisburg. However, investigators have not yet disclosed any information regarding a potential motive. Kansas authorities were informed of the case by the Carthage Police Department in Missouri, the local law enforcement agency for the city where McJunkins-Macias and Lopez lived.
According to authorities, Lopez was discovered deceased in a camper trailer, indicating a potential homicide.

According to a police report cited by The Kansas City Star, McJunkins-Macias allegedly committed a violent murder and later transported Lopez’s body across state lines before leaving her remains behind while he spoke with family and an attorney. A purported 911 call ensued.
A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Marlen Mendez Garcia, who described herself as a close friend of Kenia Lopez, has brought to light the fact that the victim is not only a mother of two, but also responsible for the upbringing of her three siblings.

“During this difficult time, it is clear that her family will require a great deal of support, including assistance with the funeral expenses,” the friend stated, emphasizing the need for justice in the case. “Any support you can provide for this family would be deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
By early Monday, the campaign had already accumulated over $7,000 in funds.
McJunkins-Macias was recently apprehended and is currently in custody in Jasper County, Mo. He will soon be extradited to Kansas to face charges related to a murder case. This development occurred just before the weekend, according to jail records reviewed by Law&Crime.
