Man hospitalized after shooting at Publix in Hollywood involving security guard
According to police, a man has been taken to the hospital by rescue workers after a shooting at a Hollywood Publix supermarket that involved a security guard.
Around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, 7News cameras recorded a significant police presence outside the grocery store on Tyler Street.
Just after 10 p.m., according to witnesses, a security guard shot and killed an aggressive man who was attempting to enter the supermarket. The incident happened in the lobby.
The security guard is the incident’s shooter, according to investigators’ confirmation.
Witnesses’ cell phone footage showed the man lying on the floor close to the entrance of the store.
The victim and the security guard had a physical altercation shortly before the shooting, according to the investigators.
After being taken by Hollywood Fire Rescue to Memorial Regional Hospital, the victim was declared dead.
The police, who are in possession of the gun, are working with the security guard, who is fine.
As their investigation progresses, detectives are going over surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses.
