Man Arrested for Punching, Kicking, and Threatening to Kill Wife with Box Cutter in Midland

Midland, TX: Police claim that during a disturbance at a nearby motel early on Saturday morning, a Midland man with a history of marital violence kicked, punched, and threatened to kill his wife with a box cutter. He is now facing more charges.

A case of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Family Violence has been filed against Gilbert Perry, 47, after an early-morning altercation at the Scottish Delight Motel, 3307 W. Front Street, Midland.

An affidavit states that on March 29, at around 2:55 a.m., Midland Police Department officers responded to a report regarding a disturbance involving weapons. Officers were informed by dispatchers that a woman was being physically abused by a male and that she needed an ambulance.

Before police arrived, Perry, the suspect, allegedly left the scene on foot in the direction of the DK petrol station close to Midkiff Drive.

Two witnesses led investigators to Room 218 when they arrived, where they discovered the victim naked and clearly hurt. Officers were informed by witnesses that Perry had kicked and punched the woman in the face while she was curled up on the ground, and they had heard her yelling for assistance.

Officers were informed by the victim that Perry had just been released from jail following a five-year term for a prior offence involving domestic violence against her. She said that Perry had relapsed into alcohol and acted aggressively during a divorce dispute.

The complaint claims that Perry threatened to cut the woman’s throat with a knife while holding her arms down. She apparently resisted him just enough to delay him when he attempted to unfurl the knife while holding her.

She claimed to police that she was able to persuade Perry to allow her to use the loo before leaving the room. Perry allegedly caught up with her outside as she ran away, threw her to the ground, headbutted her in the face, and kept punching and kicking her while she cried for assistance.

Officers saw that the woman’s face was severely swollen, that her cheek and left arm were clearly bruised, and that her lower and midface were scratched. Her injuries were photographed and included in the case file.

Officers L. Johnson and J. Edwards found Perry at the DK petrol station off Midkiff Road shortly after the attack and took him into custody. Allegedly used in the assault, a green box cutter was found and turned over as evidence.

After being arrested, Perry is being held at the Midland County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
