Man Arrested after Sleeping with 14-year-old Girl in Utah; Lured Underage Girls by Drugs Outside School
A Midvale man, believed to be a state employee, has been apprehended for allegedly participating in inappropriate sexual conduct with a teenage girl and displaying predatory behavior towards other young girls.
A man named Steven Allen Mayo, aged 50, has been arrested and taken to the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday. He is being investigated for engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor, as well as facing charges of child endangerment, enticing a minor, and sexual abuse of a minor.
According to a police booking affidavit, Mayo is alleged to have formed a friendship with a young girl who had run away from the hotel room where she and her mother were staying.
“She was approached by the person in custody while sitting on the curb. The person in custody offered her drugs and she informed him of her age, which is 14. According to the affidavit, she stated that she departed with him and returned to his residence.
They engaged in intimate activities at Mayo’s residence, and on a separate occasion, Mayo gave the girl and her friend a substance at his house, as stated in the affidavit.
Following the arrival of the authorities, a thorough examination of the young girl’s phone was carried out, revealing the presence of explicit messages exchanged with Mayo.
The teenager informed the authorities that Mayo had made disturbing comments about his preference for younger individuals, mentioning that the youngest person he had been involved with was 13 years old as per KSL News.
He also mentioned that he would drive to the cafe across from Cottonwood High School and observe the people there. According to the affidavit, the individual in question expressed a desire to enroll in night classes at Cottonwood High School with the intention of meeting someone.
“Based on my training and experience, the conversations displayed behavior commonly seen in individuals who target child victims,” stated the arresting officer in the affidavit.
