Volusia County, FL – Deputies say a Florida man was arrested for attempted murder after reportedly hitting a man in the head many times and digging a hole for him at a homeless camp.
According to reports, the man who was attacked has recovered consciousness, but he is expected to suffer major long-term injuries and memory loss.
Detectives from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office stated they had been investigating the attack since Saturday, March 15.
According to reports, the incident occurred at a homeless camp in DeLand along International Speedway Boulevard and Stone Street.
Deputies say a man repeatedly punched another man in the back of the head before digging a grave for him in the woods. The man was in critical condition after the attack, according to officials.
Deputies said an inquiry led them to the 29-year-old Giovanni Bubenik, who is accused of attempted murder.
On Friday, March 21, officers say they found Bubenik hiding at 147 Evergreen Terrace. Deputies say they then got him into custody with the assistance of K-9 “Red.”
According to records, Bubenik is being held at the Volusia County Jail on a charge of first-degree attempted murder.
