Lawsuit Filed Against California Doctor and Hospital by LGBTQ Patients in LA

Los Angeles, CA: A California doctor and Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach are being sued by 73 former patients who claim they were victims of sexual abuse.

Allegations have been made against William Thompson IV, MD, an infectious disease specialist, regarding inappropriate conduct with patients during visits at his Newport Beach office and the hospital. As per the lawsuit, his area of expertise was LGBTQ care.

Several former patients have come forward, accusing Dr. Thompson of misconduct during their medical visits. They claim that he performed prostate exams that were unnecessary and crossed the line into assault. The patients claim that Hoag Hospital has disregarded their complaints and neglected to conduct investigations.

The hospital expressed its strong disapproval of the behavior attributed to Dr. William Thompson in the recent lawsuit and commended the bravery of former patients who have spoken out. “Dr. Thompson ran his own medical practice and was not affiliated with Hoag or any of its partners.” His clinical privileges at Hoag Hospital were abruptly suspended by the medical staff after criminal charges were filed against him. We understand the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold, and we are committed to fully cooperating with the ongoing criminal proceedings involving Dr. Thompson.

Dr. Thompson’s arrest in September resulted in him facing 20 felony counts for assaulting patients. The court hearing is scheduled for March 15.
