Miami, FL (MSN) – A Las Vegas woman passed away in a Miami home being used as a rehabilitation facility after traveling there with her sister for a plastic surgery.
Ahmonique Miller was 28. She leaves behind a mother, a brother, a sister, and a daughter. Kiera Barnes claimed to have been in the recovery house with Miller when she passed away.
According to Miami police, homicide detectives are looking into Miller’s death at 3637 SW Fourth St. on March 7 at 10:26 p.m. Barnes claimed in a video that the incident was the fault of Keyla Oliver, who operates Keyla’s Recovery House at that address.
At 3637 SW Fourth St., Oliver answered the door and directed all inquiries from the Miami Herald to lawyer Bob Pardo. Pardo responded, “It would be improper for us to comment at this time; our condolences to the family of the deceased.” when asked about the patrons of Keyla’s Recovery House, the license, and the medical staff who worked there.

In a video that was published by @surgery411 and shared on Instagram by @couturebodyculture, Barnes stated that she and Miller traveled to Miami for plastic surgery operations at Avana Plastic Surgery, located at 8700 W. Flagler St.
Instead of being a hospital, Avana is licensed as an office surgery center, just like other plastic surgery centers. According to Florida administrative code, patients must be released from the hospital within twenty-four hours of their surgery appointment.
After spending their post-operative days at recovery residences, which are often housed in rented homes, the majority of patients are admitted and discharged on the same day.
Although rehabilitation centers don’t have a special license, their services, such as aiding with prescribed medicine administration and personal care like dressing and bathing, are comparable to those of assisted living facilities.
Arrests in Miami-Dade recovery homes frequently result in charges of “operating an assisted living facility without a license.”
Keyla Oliver does not have a medical professional license, according to documents from the Florida Department of Health. Additionally, Keyla’s Recovery House is not registered as an assisted living facility or state corporation, despite the fact that state corporate records indicate Keyla Oliver is the current operator of Keyla’s Services, which is located at 3637 SW Fourth St., having previously operated at 3227 SW 26th St., which is the address listed on Keyla’s Recovery House’s Facebook page.
On the evening of March 7, there were five individuals at the treatment center: Miller, Barnes, Oliver, Oliver’s son, and a staff member, according to Barnes’ lawyer, Frantz “Jahra” McLawrence of Hollywood.
