LAPD Arrested Former NFL Player Accused of Multiple Robberies

Los Angeles, California: Authorities in Los Angeles reported on Tuesday that Derrick Ward, a former NFL running back who won a Super Bowl, had been arrested for allegedly conducting many robberies throughout the city.

According to the LAPD and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Ward, 43, was taken into custody by officers from the North Hollywood Division of the LAPD on Monday at noon.

Ward was taken into custody at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Monday, and the sheriff’s office reports that his bail was set at $250,000. Records from the sheriff’s office show that as of early Tuesday afternoon, he was still in detention.

After being selected in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft, Ward spent his eight years as a professional football player with the New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Houston Texans.

Ward played a part in the New York Giants’ 2007 Super Bowl victory over Tom Brady’s unbeaten New England Patriots.
