Kansas City Police Bust Major Theft Ring, Arrest Eight and Recover Stolen Goods

After a month-long investigation, the bust was carried out by detectives from the Kansas City Police Department’s property crimes section, with help from city officials and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Thursday, the KCPD shared several films of the cleanup work in an empty field near 54th Street and Brighton Avenue.
“People started setting up camps on private and public land,” KCPD officer William Richter said.
The land had been occupied by people for most of the past year, which is why the owners finally asked for help cleaning up the land.
KCPD says that eight people were arrested, 34 cars were towed, and over $10,000 worth of stolen medical equipment, 10 BMX bikes, a golf cart, ski gear, and many stolen license plates that were linked to several stolen vehicles were found.
Nat Jonjevic’s BMX bikes were among the things that were stolen.
“I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the crime scene last Thursday to retrieve some of the bikes and it was very clear that a lot of things were stolen from a lot of people,” said Jonjevic.
“We are thankful for all the detectives’ hard work and the help from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the city of Kansas City,” the KCPD said in a short post on social media.
