Juveniles arrested for Parking Lot Shooting incident in Tampa

Tampa, FL: After a shooting in the Westshore Plaza parking garage left one person injured, officers from the Tampa Police Department wasted no time in apprehending two teenagers.

The shooting that occurred in the mall’s parking garage on March 27th, which was connected to a drug transaction, led to the arrest of Tarivus Clemons, 16, and Armontae Wilson, 16, both of whom were teenagers.

The victim met with Clemons and Wilson at the garage at 2:40 p.m., according to the investigation. The victim was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle when the two criminals attempted to steal marijuana from him. As the driver started to back away, Clemons and Wilson exchanged gunfire, hitting the passenger twice.

As they were running away, the victims pulled over to a neighbor’s house and dialed 911. The passenger was identified by responding officers and transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The motorist escaped unharmed.

Clemons and Wilson were positively identified as suspects after detectives collected leads and used investigative methods. Clemons was taken into custody without incident by officers at his apartment at 4438 W. Trilby Ave., just hours after the shooting. Additionally, Wilson was apprehended without incident at his apartment, 3719 Ohio Ave., just before 10:00 p.m. It was determined by investigators that the two weapons involved in the event were retrieved.

Lee Bercaw, chief of police in Tampa, warned that “juveniles who use a gun and commit a crime will face adult consequences and are mistaken if they believe they will not be held accountable.” So stated the chief. “I am grateful that our officers arrived at the arrests and recovered the weapons in a timely manner, preventing any harm to another member of our community.”

Armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, shooting into a vehicle, and minor in possession of a firearm were all charges against Tarivus Clemons.

The following charges were brought against Armontae Wilson: armed robbery, assault causing great bodily harm or deadly weapon, firearm possession by a felony, concealed carry, minor possession, shooting into a vehicle, and probation violation.

As of this writing, authorities are still trying to piece together how the minors got their hands on the guns.
