Intense Car Chase on I-495 Led to 6 Arrests; 2 Stolen Cars, Weapons Recovered
The authorities were successful in apprehending 6 carjacking suspects after an intense car chase in Delaware. The police also arrested the 2 minors involved in the chase.
The hot pursuit happened on Thursday and the county involved was New Castle County.
The chase, according to investigators, started on Delaware’s I-495, traveled through New Jersey, and returned to Delaware. Police claim to have discovered a stolen blue Hyundai Elantra, which sparked the start of the pursuit at approximately 11 a.m.
When the stolen automobile crashed on I-295 in New Jersey, police pursued it across the Delaware Memorial Bridge. A brave driver then pulled over his car to block the speeding car.
The carjacker then stole his car as well. His silver Honda Accord was stolen by those who were running from the police.
After that, the suspects continued speeding and the authorities did not stop. The officers continued their hot pursuit, which eventually led them back into Delaware and to Wilmington.
By 12:30 p.m., authorities had successfully surrounded and separated the suspects at 3rd and Jackson Streets. When the suspects could not escape the barricades, they left their cars and fled on foot.
The suspects were subsequently found near the Adams Four shopping center. All of them were arrested. Two cars were recovered from them. The cars are a Red Kia and the Honda Accord.
When police took them into custody, it was found that 2 of them were minors. The authorities also confiscated some weapons.
The owner of the Red Kia is not known and the police are looking for the owner to return the car.
The authorities have not made public the identities of the arrested suspects. No other information was made public. It is also unclear how many weapons were confiscated. It is also not clear whether the brave car driver who tried to help the authorities was injured or not.
