Injured Moped Rider Attacked Deputy who provided Him Medical Attention in Virginia; Deputy Died during Violent Altercation

A Virginia sheriff’s deputy tragically passed away due to a medical emergency while intervening with a combative individual on a moped who was bleeding.
An individual on a moped approached Sgt. Floyd H. Miles, Jr.’s vehicle while he was monitoring traffic on Sunday around 12:30 p.m., according to a Facebook post by the Charles City County Sheriff’s Office. As the person approached Miles, the moped accidentally tipped over onto the deputy’s vehicle.
According to a Facebook post, Miles noticed blood on the moped rider and expressed concern for their well-being. According to the social media post, the man insisted to the deputy that he was being pursued and in danger of being harmed.
Miles placed the individual in the back of his vehicle and contacted EMS to provide additional observation, as stated by the sheriff’s office. After the EMS team arrived, they placed the man in the back of their ambulance.
After a few minutes, Miles made his way back to the rear of the ambulance and observed the man displaying combative behavior towards him, as reported by the sheriff’s office. According to the department, a physical altercation broke out between the man and Miles.
Amidst the ordeal, Miles experienced a sudden health issue that required immediate medical attention, prompting his urgent transfer to a nearby medical facility, as reported by the sheriff’s office. According to a Facebook post, he passed away due to his medical emergency.
Miles dedicated 16 years of his life to serving the Charles City County Sheriff’s Office, a place he held dear in his heart. His strong connection to the county he grew up in was evident throughout his career. After enlisting in the U.S. Army, he decided to join the sheriff’s office as per USA Today.
Miles was also in charge of supervising the Patrol and Animal Control division of the sheriff’s office, as stated by the department.
