A West Virginia mother is facing charges for the tragic death of her newborn baby at a hospital, as reported by various news outlets.
An inquiry was initiated on June 20 regarding Brooke Kessler, a 33-year-old resident of Hurricane. The investigation was prompted by concerns raised by hospital staff regarding the suspicious injuries observed on her 16-day-old baby.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the police, the baby suffered from several severe injuries. The complaint mentioned bruising on the throat, eye, and head, as well as a broken arm and ribs.
According to WSAZ, the baby tragically passed away on June 23 after being removed from life support, as reported by the police.

Investigators later interviewed Kessler, the baby’s mother, who reportedly admitted to feeling frustrated with her baby and unintentionally applying too much pressure while burping her daughter. According to the complaint, Kessler claimed that she did not have any intention of applying excessive pressure.
WOWK-TV reported that Kessler is currently being held in the Western Regional Jail. It is uncertain whether she has entered a plea or hired a lawyer to represent her.
