Indiana Father Arrested after Daughter Ingested Fentanyl Pill from His Luggage; Authorities Busted Father after He Ran Away to Evade Arrest
An Indiana dad is currently serving time for the alleged accidental overdose of fentanyl by his 3-year-old daughter, who had gotten into his abandoned pill crusher. Court records reveal that the father did not visit his daughter in the hospital despite receiving fifteen calls from DCS.
On Wednesday morning, authorities in Muncie took 25-year-old Devin D’rell Rollins into custody and charged him with the felony offense of dependent neglect. Rollins is currently wanted on three warrants and has a history of two neglect offenses, according to court documents. His child’s positive drug test is the basis for his most recent accusation.
Rollins’ 3-year-old daughter was rushed to IU Ball Memorial Hospital on June 30, according to court filings, after she allegedly consumed Tylenol while visiting her aunt’s residence with her dad.
The aunt then reported the child’s apparent lethargy to 911. According to what the child’s mother later told the authorities, Rollins claimed to have woken up next to their limp daughter.
Rollins was allegedly accompanied by EMS personnel as they transported the 3-year-old to IUBMH for a checkup. Also, DCS was alerted and sent someone to the hospital promptly; however, they were unable to locate Rollins.
After that, DCS went to various addresses all throughout Muncie in an effort to get in touch with Rollins and the child’s mother, but they were unable. No parent was located or responded.
The police reported that a probable positive test for fentanyl was returned by the child’s medical records. Following this, Muncie police arrived at Rollins’ residence on Main Street and took him into custody for interrogation.
Rollins allegedly told police that his daughter must have gotten into his old pill crusher in his rucksack after she tested positive for fentanyl.
Reportedly, Rollins claimed he knew the cops were coming because he had warrants when asked why he fled the house when EMS was summoned to assist his daughter. He continued by saying he had been “running from these warrants” for five years and that he was aware the police were searching for him, so he never even went to see his sick child in the hospital.
Around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Rollins was finally taken into custody and arraigned in the Delaware County Jail on a single count of level 3 felony neglect of a dependent. He has not yet had a preliminary hearing set for his case.
