Indiana County Commissioner Arrested in Nevada for Sexual Assault; Waiting Extradition: Authorities Reveal
A Hancock County Commissioner is currently being held at a local jail, awaiting extradition to Las Vegas. He faces charges of sexual assault in Nevada.
John D. Jessup, 49, was apprehended last week and is currently being detained in the Shelby County Jail for an offense committed in a different jurisdiction. Jessup currently holds the position of Hancock County Commissioner, representing the townships of Vernon, Green, and Brown.
Jessup was taken into custody on Friday, June 14, by the Shirley Police Department following a warrant issued by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, as indicated by online jail records. Jessup faces charges of sexual assault in Clark County, Nevada, according to court records.
Commissioners President Bill Spalding stated on Monday that Hancock County will refrain from commenting on Jessup’s arrest at this time.
“The commissioners are currently lacking sufficient information about the cause of the arrest and will choose not to make any comments at this time. They will await further updates from the out-of-state agency conducting the investigation,” Spalding stated. “For any additional questions, please contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.”
Court documents reveal that Jessup is facing a sexual assault charge in the State of Nevada, as of June 11. FOX59 has contacted LVMPD and Clark County courts to obtain further details regarding Jessup’s felony charge.
