Indiana Cop Overdosed on Fentanyl During Traffic Stop; Exposed to Drug after He Pulled Over Speedy Car

During a traffic check, a lieutenant in the Southport Police Department overdosed on fentanyl and was hospitalized for treatment.
According to a post made by police on X, Lt. Tony Wilson was exposed to fentanyl on Friday. Wilson pulled over a driver for not having a license during a traffic stop at the Speedway gas station between U.S. 31 and County Line Road. The driver was also operating the car at high speeds.
Wilson discovered fentanyl in a folded-up one-dollar bill when examining the car.
Wilson called for aid via radio after the exposure. Wilson was about to utilize the Narcan that was in his pocket, according to the police, but he passed out before doing so.

After being called, medics from the Indianapolis Fire Department hurried Wilson to Community South Hospital. It is anticipated that he will fully recover.
The agency expressed gratitude to IFD for their prompt steps in saving Wilson’s life. The statement read, “The Southport Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our officers and the community.”
Police in Southport did not indicate if the driver involved in the traffic stop was being held or if they would be charged with drugs.
