Houston Teen Tried to Sexually Assualt 79-year-old Woman in Parking Lot; Ran Away after Woman Screamed for Help: Police
Authorities are actively seeking a teenager in connection with the robbery and attempted assault of at least two women in the Greenspoint area this month.
The Houston Police Department reported that the initial incident took place at an apartment complex located off Aldine Bender Road near Airline Drive on September 6.
A young armed individual, estimated to be between 17 and 19 years old, committed robbery and sexual assault against a woman in the parking area. The woman successfully managed to flee and make her way to safety. The individual was seen on security footage retrieving his firearm and fleeing the scene.
On the evening of September 12, around 9:30 p.m., authorities suspect that the teenager targeted another woman at an apartment complex situated less than half a mile from the first incident.
Authorities in Houston are on the lookout for a suspect linked to multiple incidents of sexual assault and robbery in the Greenspoint neighborhood.
A local news outlet had a conversation with a 79-year-old grandmother who is set to celebrate her 80th birthday this weekend.
“We are people who can’t defend ourselves,” she said.
She recounted to ABC13 that the man came up to her in the parking lot, prompting her to step aside to let him go by.
At that moment, he reportedly lunged forward and put her in a headlock. She claimed he gripped her arms with such force that he choked her.
“I felt I was going to die. He was not letting me breathe,” she said.
She recounted how the man pulled her into a “shadowy area” and forced her face down onto the ground.
The 79-year-old recounted that she yelled as he removed both their pants.
“He was about to rape me,” she explained.
According to her, the neighbors successfully frightened the man away.
A woman, choosing to stay anonymous, expressed her empathy for the feelings of the other survivor.
She expressed her hope that she and others will work together with law enforcement to assist in identifying the individual.
“What he did will come to light, and he will pay for what he did,” she said.
The grandmother expressed her desire for heightened police presence and additional surveillance in her community, noting that records indicate at least six other sexual assaults have taken place since August.
Authorities in Houston have determined that there are no links to those cases.
