Bellflower, California: Authorities in Bellflower have launched an investigation to find the cause of the blaze that claimed 8 lives. The deadly fire took the lives of one woman and her 7 dogs.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department reports that firefighters dispatched to the 8700 block of Mayne Street at approximately 8:10 a.m. on Monday put out the fire in the one-story structure in roughly 20 minutes.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the 79-year-old woman’s identity was not immediately known. Later she was identified but her identity has not been made public.

The woman was a dentist who lived by herself with her 7 dogs. Her neighbor said, “I basically saw smoke coming from the side of the house. I smelled something burning. I was on my way to go to work. I knocked on the door, called 911 and that’s when the alarm started going off.”

Her son, Jay Quiazon said, “As of right now, it’s not hitting me. But I know later on it’s going to hit me.”

All the dogs were Shih Tzu puppies. The neighbors shared condolences and the authorities have launched a probe into the matter.
