Hot Armed Police Chase Ended after 3 Arrests in Michigan after Alleged Armed Robbery Outside University Campus

Three individuals face criminal charges following an armed robbery incident outside a residence hall at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, which subsequently resulted in a police pursuit on May 12.

Alante James, James Braemmert, and Jamarius Smith-Freeman are facing charges of multiple felonies, according to prosecutors. All three individuals were reportedly involved in the pursuit, however, it appears that only James is facing charges related to the armed robbery.

An armed robbery occurred in front of Cambridge Commons at approximately 10 p.m. on May 10. According to a criminal complaint, a student reported to the police that her friend’s valuable glasses, worth an estimated $5,000, were taken by someone with a gun who then fled the scene.

James has been identified as a suspect, and according to the complaint, surveillance video shows him fleeing the scene in a gray Infiniti following the robbery. A surveillance video captured footage of James and Braemmert, along with several others, entering the residence hall earlier that night at Cambridge Commons.

According to the complaint, surveillance footage captured Braemmert leaving Cambridge Commons and entering the Infiniti. Shortly after, James was observed taking the glasses and fleeing to the getaway vehicle. At one moment, he even brandished a firearm towards an individual. The driver was reportedly identified as “Lil Mari.”

In the afternoon of May 12, authorities noticed a gray Infiniti in the vicinity of Sherman and Villard during their patrol. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver swiftly fled down an alley. A complaint has been filed stating that the car was driven at speeds of approximately 90 mph. The chase came to an end when the driver lost control and collided with another vehicle and a fire hydrant. It didn’t last very long.

According to prosecutors, Smith-Freeman was identified as the driver, while Braemmert and James were passengers. All three individuals were apprehended after attempting to flee. Three fully-automatic handguns were discovered by officers at the crash scene.

James faces serious charges including armed robbery, possession of a machine gun, and resisting an officer. According to court records, he entered a plea of not guilty on May 17, and a cash bond of $10,000 was set.

Braemmert faces charges related to the possession and use of a machine gun, as well as felony bail jumping and misdemeanor resisting/obstructing an officer. According to court records, he entered a plea of not guilty on May 18 and his cash bond was set at $65,000.

Smith-Freeman faces multiple charges including fleeing police, recklessly endangering safety, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a machine gun, and resisting an officer. According to court records, he entered a plea of not guilty and was granted a cash bond of $25,000 on May 17.
