A high school teacher has been apprehended by the authorities after a student made allegations of inappropriate conduct and molestation. The incident happened at a Christian High School in Grandville, Michigan.
A 57-year-old science teacher at Grandview Calvin Christian High School, Michael Hoekwater, was taken into custody last Thursday following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate contact between a teacher and a student, as reported by the Grandville Police Department.
Hoekwater has been charged by the Kent County Prosecutors Office with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was arraigned on Friday and was able to secure his release on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to make an appearance in the 59th District Court next Monday.
Hoekwater, a distinguished graduate of the University of Michigan and Calvin College, dedicated an impressive 35 years of his life to educating students at the school. His expertise spanned across multiple subjects, including chemistry, biology, and algebra, as stated on his LinkedIn profile. Grandville Calvin Christian has a student enrollment of over 900 and a teaching staff of 60.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 17, it appears that Hoekwater formed a connection with a student who was 17 years old. The student informed investigators that they would have private conversations in Hoekwater’s classroom and developed romantic feelings for each other.
According to court filings, Hoekwater allegedly confessed to engaging in an inappropriate relationship with the student, which included physical contact. He claimed that this relationship made him feel “young again,” as reported by Christian Post.
Parents were notified of Hoekwater’s arrest in a letter sent by the school on Thursday. An investigation is underway after a concerning incident involving a high school student and a staff member. The individual in question has been placed on administrative leave while the school cooperates with law enforcement to gather all the necessary information.
