Helicopter Retrieved from San Diego Bay following Thursday Night Crash: Navy

On Saturday, Navy officials said that they had successfully removed the MH-60R helicopter from the waters of San Diego Bay. On Thursday night, the aircraft fell into the bay close to Naval Base Coronado.

Around midday, the body of the helicopter was raised out of fifteen feet of water and “moved to Naval Base Coronado and offloaded onto the pier,” according to a Naval Air Forces press release.

According to the release, all six crew members who were involved in the event are in good condition and were discharged from the hospital on Friday.

According to officials, the helicopter belonged to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41, which is in charge of instructing incoming Naval Aviators on how to pilot the MH-60R Sea Hawk.

“I am immensely proud of the teamwork and determination shown by our Sailors and civilians throughout the recovery,” said Capt. Newt McKissick, commanding officer of Naval Base Coronado.
