Gunfire in Chicago’s Little Village Leaves Infant and Father in Serious Condition

Chicago, IL- A baby and his father are in serious condition following a gunshot in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood on Saturday afternoon.

According to Chicago Police, the victims were in a car in the 3100 block of West 26th Street, a busy neighborhood, around 4:37 p.m.

The family was in the car together, traveling a short distance between a parking lot and the road. Then they were approached by an unfamiliar automobile. Two individuals exited the vehicle and shot the victims before fleeing the site.

It all occurred outside many establishments in broad daylight as reported by CBS News.

The three-month-old kid was shot in the upper chest. The infant’s 21-year-old father was struck four times on his right side, according to a police officer on the scene.

Both were rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, according to authorities. The baby was eventually taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was treated on Saturday night.

An officer on the scene reported that the baby’s mother was also in the vehicle, but it was unclear whether she was harmed.

A witness stated that she was only yards away from the gunfire. She was one of the many merchants lining the busy stretch of 26th Street and lives close by. She stated that she was traumatized and conflicted about discussing the issue since she did not want to cause further difficulties in her community.

According to police, the shooting may have been motivated by gang activity.

There is no one in custody as Area Four detectives do their investigation.
