Grandparents Brutally Killed by Man in Louisiana; Authorities Arrested Alleged Shooting Suspect

A 23-year-old man from Louisiana was taken into custody this week for the alleged murder of his grandparents. According to reports, he is accused of shooting them inside their residence before proceeding to the neighbor’s house to confess. Colby Stokes was apprehended on Wednesday evening for the alleged murders of Beverly Stokes and Carley Stokes, according to records.

Colby Stokes is facing a range of charges, including murder, cruelty to animals, second-degree aggravated battery, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The charges against him were initially two counts of second-degree manslaughter, but on Thursday, authorities decided to upgrade the charges.

A devastating incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 3, at the grandparents’ residence in Mount Hermon, Louisiana, as reported by the Louisiana Radio Network. The location is approximately 75 miles northeast of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Deputies from the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to a residence following a 911 call. The caller reported that their neighbor, identified as Stokes, had arrived at their home and confessed to the shocking act of killing his own grandparents.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered the elderly husband and wife inside their home, both with apparent gunshot wounds. Carley Stokes tragically passed away at the scene, while Beverly Stokes was rushed to a hospital for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, she did not survive her injuries and was declared deceased shortly after arriving at the facility.

Colby Stokes was taken into custody by deputies after they responded to the scene, as reported by Law and Crime. He had been waiting with the neighbor who had called 911.

Washington County Sheriff Jason Smith, recently sworn in, revealed in an interview with New Orleans CBS affiliate WWL that Colby Stokes confessed to the tragic murder of his grandparents during a recorded conversation with investigators.

The sheriff revealed that Colby Stokes has a history of encounters with the law, including an arrest in 2018 for burglary. During this incident, 17-year-old Colby Stokes was accused of stealing several firearms.

According to Smith, the family involved found themselves in an extremely challenging predicament.

The motive for the murders has not been disclosed by authorities.

The family is currently coping with the loss of two beloved individuals and is in the process of coming to terms with this tragic event.

Colby Stokes is currently being detained without the possibility of release on bond.
