Georgia Man Arrested in Columbus with Drugs after a Hot Chase Spanning Alabama to Mississippi
Columbus, GA: A man from Georgia has been apprehended following a high-speed pursuit that concluded with a collision in north Columbus on Thursday evening.

An individual has been apprehended following a high-speed pursuit that culminated in a collision in north Columbus on Thursday evening.
The incident began just before 7:00 p.m. when a sheriff’s deputy in Pickens County, Alabama pulled over a black Chrysler 300 for not having a tag. There were two individuals in the vehicle. While the deputy was in conversation with the driver and collecting his information, the driver suddenly drove away.
The deputy pursued the suspect into Mississippi. Deputies from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office were alerted and helped in attempting to capture the suspects. Columbus Police Department officers also helped in the chase.

The vehicle guided deputies and officers through Columbus, north of Hwy 45 and then turning onto Bluecutt Road. Afterwards, the car collided in the 3400 block of Bluecutt Road. Following the incident, the two individuals exited the car and fled by foot. The passenger was caught shortly after. Authorities are continuing to look for the driver.
Several guns were found in the vehicle and along the path where the two suspects fled. Marijuana was also discovered by deputies at the scene.
The passenger, 22-year-old Jalen Jamar Clayton from Baconton, Ga., faced charges of Disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance. Clayton is currently in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, awaiting his first court appearance.
