Gang Member Arrested in San Diego County for Shooting Los Angeles Deputy at Traffic Light
Los Angeles, CA: A gang member shot the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy in the back while the deputy was riding a motorcycle. The shooting happened at a red light when the deputy was waiting for the traffic light to turn green.
The suspect was arrested by the California Highway Patrol. The authorities arrested Raymundo Duran on Tuesday, and just after 1 p.m.
Sheriff Robert Luna revealed that Duran was the person they thought had shot the person.
CHP officers arrested Duran in San Diego County on charges of DUI and having a weapon. While he was in custody, L.A. County detectives questioned him, which helped them prove that he was the person who they thought shot the people.
Deputy Samuel Aispuro, 43, was shot in the back near Barranca and Garvey roads in West Covina on Monday afternoon. The bullet hit him in the chest, but he was protected by a bulletproof vest.
Luna said on Monday that Aispuro was stuck at a red light at the time. Authorities are planning to make some information about the shooting and arrest public before and during the trial as per KTLA.
Luna said that Duran is in a gang and he had been previously arrested for many violent crimes across California.
“He has a very extensive criminal history, a violent criminal history … He had no business having a firearm in his possession with this criminal history.”
Sheriff Robert Luna said in a press release.
Luna stated that Aispuro, who sustained visible injuries in the incident, is anticipated to recover and return to work as soon as he is able.
