Freight Train Hits SUV in San Bernardino County; Victims Airlifted

Phelan, CA: A freight train struck a black SUV in San Bernardino County. The accident took place near White Rd and Phelan Road. The black Hyundai SUV crossed the railroad tracks just after 1:16 p.m. on January 21, 2024, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department’s recuse team immediately got there and said there were two people involved in one car. The people stuck inside the Hyundai were taken out of the crashed car.

A Mercy Air #22 helicopter took the victims from the scene of the accident to Antelope Valley Medical Center with a broken arm and other injuries that were not revealed. People said the other person had minor injuries and took them to the same hospital. The accident did not hurt the train crew.

The area was a traffic nightmare for a little over an hour because the westbound and eastbound lanes of Phelan Road were shut. Drivers had to take dirt roads instead.

As of 2:38 p.m., the road was open again, and the train continued its journey. The railroad officials launched a probe to look into the matter.
