A man who used to live in Cayuga County is accused of sending police threatening emails in which he said he had “specific targets” in the county and made it sound like Cornell University was in danger.
According to court records, Jerry Gordon reportedly wrote in emails that he was going to kill a certain person, whose initials were given as “J.W.”, and that he planned to do it with a.223-caliber rifle from a “sniper’s nest” near the person’s home.
“I am on a tight schedule for this trip and will be looking to complete a trifecta,” Gordon is said to have written. “As I’ve already told police and other people, I have very clear targets in mind and don’t want to involve any innocent bystanders,” Nothing else will happen if people leave me alone and let me do my job with the goals that were set.
Gordon was caught by the FBI at Newark International Liberty Airport in New Jersey on April 25. The criminal charge says he got on the plane in Denver and was on his way to Syracuse.
In an email to police on April 24, Gordon said, “I have tried warning everyone multiple times and still nothing has happened, so I will be taking action next week on the Cornell University campus.” This is what the FBI says in its criminal charge.
The job history of Gordon on LinkedIn shows that he has worked part-time as an environmental adviser at Cornell and as an adjunct professor. The page says that at the university, he helped shut down lab projects and get biohazardous and hazardous waste ready to be thrown away.
Gordon has put hundreds of pages online about what seem to be ongoing fights with government officials. Many of these fights are mostly related to a nasty divorce that hasn’t been settled.
A huge number of online records show that he is no longer working at Cornell and quit in late 2023. The people at Cornell University say he no longer works there. Both federal investigators and Gordon’s lawyers refused to say anything.
In his online letter of resignation from Cornell in 2023, Gordon said he would continue to be a resource and that he planned to journey in his Airstream.
