Florida Woman Arrested after Alleged Gunpoint Robberies; Lured Victims saying that She is a Fortune Teller
A woman was apprehended by the police for allegedly using her fortune teller status as a cover to commit an armed robbery.
A woman named Carola Mitchell, aged 52, has been charged with robbery with a firearm and kidnapping in the first degree with a firearm. Additionally, she has three out-of-county warrants, as per the online booking records of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 16, officers reported that Mitchell visited a residence and inquired about local Mexican cuisine. After asking for a glass of water, Mitchell proceeded to offer psychic services to the woman who answered the door.
Judith Ramirez shared with Fox 13 News that her mother-in-law had opened the door and she quickly verified the visitor’s identity before stepping away to attend to her baby in another room. According to her account, Mitchell allegedly brandished a firearm in front of her mother-in-law and demanded money.
According to WFLA-TV, Mitchell allegedly made off with $12,000 in cash and quickly escaped in her car, according to police. According to the outlet, a white Nissan Rogue was caught on camera leaving the vicinity at the time of the robbery.
Following an extensive investigation lasting for a month, authorities were able to track down the vehicle in Bradenton, Fl., leading to the subsequent arrest of Mitchell.
According to the police, the woman was using her psychic services as a deceptive tactic to gain access to people’s homes and carry out robberies or steal cash and jewelry.
Investigators have requested a warrant to search Mitchell’s device. This request was made after she mentioned that she always carries a phone with her. The investigators believe that her phone may have been with her during the robbery and could provide valuable information about other potential victims.
Mitchell is currently in custody at Falkenburg Road Jail without bond.
